My Mixed Up Brain

I cannot tell you how many times I stutter through every one of my kids names before saying the right one. Lexie's taking a bath...

Me: Masi...Lexie, I mean. Lay down and get your hair wet.

She lays down. Sits up

Me: Mase...Lex, wash your hair please.

Meanwhile Masi B-lines for the basement

Me: LEXIE!....or MASI! Don't go downstairs! You need to get in the tub. Masi...Lexie...I mean, Tyke! You're next! Go get your clothes off.

Lexie: Mom, why do you always get our names mixed up?
Me: Uhhhh....I don't know. I have too much going on in my head I guess.
Lexie: Well, why don't you just change our names. Masi can be Lexie and I can be Masi.
Me: I will still call you the wrong names.
Lexie: Well, if we change our names then when you mix them up you will really be calling us by the right name!

What a novel idea!

Me: Ok. Sounds good. Now come over here and let me rinse out your hair under the faucet before we run out of cold water.
Lexie: You mean run out of WARM water.
Me: *Looooooooooooong and exhausted sigh*

I gave up...I just say "if I am looking at you, then I am talking to you."

That is funny! I have this same problem every day. My kids say, "Ok, Dad, Grandma, I mean MOM!"
